All the desire

All the foregone nights,
And the approaching dawns.
On threshold sits the knight,
Humming songs of hopeful returns.
In the heart he implores God,
To let him return on his own feet.
Scared of leaving, yet acting strong,
Unwilling to miss on the family treats.
So much he has to forsake,
Knowing not what remains until his homecoming.
And yet 'tis his desire to partake,
The affairs of the world that lies ahead of him.
Umpteen of reasons there are to not leave,
But his wings, too strong to be held back.
The paths leading back home he has to retrieve,
For the chains tying him to  home are now slack.
Liberty comes with age, a thing frequently heard,
Yet, more often it's a child yearning to escape control.
The mind of whom knows none about the world,
But the desire to break free that fills his soul.
No person here, one could say, is wrong,
Neither the protector nor the protected.
Child considering the world a tune, desires to sing along,
The house undesirous of his innocence to be depleted.
