Life in the dark

Ever thought what a woman or girl who witnessed such violence must feel? I tried thinking... Here's something I wrote from the perspective of a woman/girl living in the dark times...

At dawn it rose,

The sparkling yellow star.

As the sparrow began to compose,

Its morning song on trees afar.

The spectacle very ordinary,

Consisted the feel of heaven.

The butterflies on flowers merry,

With the taste of nectar smitten.

How I do not know yet,

The paradise got away by miles.

All those eyes suddenly got wet,

Which once gleamed with smiles.

Homes that protected my kind,

From destructive storms and rain.

Were in ashes left behind,

Narrating stories of pain.

The shameful stories of assault,

Of the women young and grown.

I wondered if being a woman is my fault,

And if my body is my own.

I remember vividly the promises,

Of the chosen administrators.

To protect us from all menaces,

Hazards, violence and traitors.

The promises today tease us,

The truth in them nonexistent.

O how they once pleased us,

And today make us lament.

I ask those who hear of us,

Why do we suffer a misfortune so stark?

If those who ought to be aren't righteous,

Why do we live our lives in the dark?

Rain, rain go away!

Rain, rain go away!
In danger many lives lay.
You've been conspiring with the opposition,
We've heard our administrators say.

Rain, rain go away!
Let the light come out today.
If only we could bask in it for a few hours,
Before smog paints the sky gray.

Rain, rain go away!
Riverside houses are falling like clay.
Though they ought not be where they are,
They're left undisturbed once their occupants pay.

Rain, rain go away!
Bring an end to this year's stay.
Or soon we'll have to build boat houses,
And in floating palaces will politicians stay.
